Teachers can borrow from our extensive stock of books, posters, videos, etc. to resource and extend the curriculum. Teachers' requests are quickly dispatched to their schools, with items relating to topics, and additional fiction and poetry books, big books and professional resources making up exciting loan boxes. Teachers are also welcome to visit the Library Service to select their own resources.
The average price of books selected is £10.50, and we buy from approval services, inspecting and reading each new title. A school using our service to the full borrows around 10 items per pupil each year, providing schools with a cost-effective way of supporting the learning with up-to-date, relevant resources. We offer a special service to headteachers of subscribing schools, and a bulk loan to boost the school's own library.
We are happy to discuss resources with teachers from subscribing schools, and can visit you or accommodate a staff meeting in the Library.
The library service has produced two local history packs for use in schools. Both are based in Islington, but provide a model for ways in which schools can deal with the local history component of the national curriculum. The packs are respectively Islington Then and Now, and Finsbury Then and Now.
