The Education Library Service is managed by CEA@Islington and is part of the London Borough of Islington's Education Department.
The Service has an extensive collection of resources, about 185,000 items. Its specialist staff have knowledge of education practice and library and museum work, and understand the role of resources in supporting teaching and learning. All resources are selected to support and enrich the curriculum and coverage is from early years through to key stage 4. Access to the collection gives schools and other users the opportunity to provide the best possible learning materials for their students, and offers support for teachers.
Teachers from all early years settings, including nurseries and playgroups, primary, secondary, and special schools are able to use the service, together with those working in hospital and private schools and some individual organisations.
Local schools can subscribe to the full range of services on offer in the form of a service level agreement.
Schools in other areas, private schools and other users can negotiate their own service agreement or a pay as you use system. Many schools borrow boxes on specific topics, e.g. Victorian childhood, Electricity and magnetism.
